It is often said that the three central elements of Mediterranean gastronomy are olives, wheat and wine and that the geographical area of Mediterranean cuisine can be delimited according to the extension of the olive tree area.
Thus, each region of the Mediterranean basin is distinguished by its own varieties of wheat, olives and its characteristic types of grapes.
In the Tramuntana mountains, the first denomination of origin wine in Mallorca is produced: D.O. Binissalem. In its extension, you can see thousands of hectares of olive groves with specimens up to 1200 years old. To the north, in Pollensa, old varieties of wheat are still cultivated.
The culinary value of the Tramuntana mountains goes beyond its contribution to local cuisine.
